Who is an E-MTB for?
With an e-mountain bike, you are guaranteed maximum riding comfort with a high fun factor! An e-mountain bike is exactly the right bike for you if you…
- … want to conquer new terrain with your bike.
- … want to improve your physical fitness.
- … are usually prevented from cycling by physical complaints.
- … don't want to lose the joy of cycling even at an older age.
- … want even more riding pleasure.
An E-MTB is therefore suitable for anyone who wants to cover longer distances and discover new landscapes, without being deterred by a lack of fitness.
What should you look for when buying an E-MTB?
Of course, your new e-mountain bike should bring you long-lasting joy and fit you perfectly. We show you what options are available and how you can find out which one suits you best.
Hardtail or Full Suspension?
Similar to unmotorized mountain bikes, E-MTBs also distinguish between hardtail and full suspension. Which variant you should choose mainly depends on the terrain you want to ride on.
- A hardtail e-mountain bike is only suspended at the front fork. Compared to a full-suspension bike, it is cheaper, easier to maintain, and has better power transfer from the motor. A hardtail is suitable for riding on paved roads, dirt roads, and forest paths. For example, if you want to commute to work daily with your E-MTB, the hardtail is the best choice.
- A full-suspension e-mountain bike is suspended at the front fork and the rear. Due to the suspension at the front and rear of the e-mountain bike, a full-suspension e-bike promises comparatively higher stability and traction. If you want to ride in demanding terrain, for example, a full-suspension bike is highly recommended.
Frame Material: Aluminum or Carbon?
Even with an e-MTB, you have the choice between an aluminum or carbon frame. Aluminum frames are the more affordable, low-maintenance option, which usually comes with a slightly higher weight. If low weight and very high stiffness are particularly important to you, you should invest in a somewhat pricier carbon frame.
Which frame size is right for me?
When buying an e-mountain bike, you need to decide on the right frame size. This depends on your individual height, inseam, and arm length.
With our free frame size calculator, you can easily find out which frame size is right for your new e-mountain bike.
E-Mountain Bike for Men or Women
Men's and women's models often differ in geometry, frame height, and ergonomic components such as saddle and handlebars. Women's E-MTBs are adapted to female body proportions, for example, with a lower step-through and smaller frame sizes. Men's E-MTBs are usually larger, with a diamond or trapezoidal frame.
Therefore, make sure that the frame shape and seating position match your physique – this is the only way your E-MTB will become a safe and comfortable companion.
