Road Bikes from fullbike
Do you want to glide swiftly over the asphalt, effortlessly conquer steep climbs, and optimally work on your athletic performance? Then a road bike is exactly what you need. For over 100 years, road bikes, with their unique riding characteristics, have stood for pure riding pleasure without unnecessary ballast.
Whether you just want to get a taste of road cycling or have athletic ambitions for races and triathlons – at fullbike, you'll find the right road bike at attractive prices.
Which road bike is right for me?
While many primarily focus on weight, it's primarily the type of road bike that determines whether it will optimally support you in achieving your athletic goals. We'll tell you which types of road bikes there are and what they are particularly suitable for.
Endurance Road Bike
The endurance road bike is now the most common type of road bike. This design is characterized by a more upright seating position and usually 28–32 mm wide tires, which significantly increases riding comfort compared to pure racing machines. In contrast, the more upright seating position increases air resistance, making endurance bikes slightly slower than race and aero bikes.
Endurance road bikes are ideal for long tours, for routes with frequently poor road conditions, and as sports equipment for recreational sports without major racing ambitions.
Race Road Bike
With the classic race road bike, the name says it all. It is fast, light, and compact, making it ideal for top speeds and racing. Characteristic features include a very stiff frame and usually 23 mm or 25 mm wide tires, as well as an aggressive seating position that requires high core stability.
If you have athletic ambitions and often want to ride on hilly routes, the race road bike is the perfect choice.
Aero Road Bike
As the name already suggests, this special design is aimed at minimal air resistance. This includes a streamlined frame as well as aerodynamic attachments from the seat post to the stem, as well as high wheel rims. This makes the aero road bike perfectly suited for high speeds and thus maximum riding pleasure in flatter terrain.
The aero road bike is also suitable for classic road races or participation in short triathlons. But beware: due to their special design, these bikes are more susceptible to crosswinds.
Triathlon & Time Trial Bike
With triathlon and time trial bikes, riding comfort takes a back seat. Even more so than the aero road bike, these bikes are designed for maximum aerodynamics. These special bikes are therefore used almost exclusively for triathlon training and competitions. Those who are ambitiously involved in triathlon sports choose a triathlon or time trial bike.
Cyclocross Bikes
Cyclocross road bikes are designed for off-road use and represent a robust, versatile variant of the classic road bike. They are characterized by wider tires with a pronounced tread, higher ground clearance, and stable frame geometry. With disc brakes and grippy tires, these bikes are excellently suited for muddy, unpaved surfaces and quick changes of direction.
If you often ride on forest paths, dirt roads, or in winter and are looking for a sporty bike that still rolls efficiently on asphalt, a cyclocross bike is just right for you.

What should you consider when buying your road bike?
To buy the road bike that suits you and your athletic goals, various factors such as frame material, brakes, and tire width play an important role.
Frame material and stiffness: When it comes to frame material, you have the choice between carbon and aluminum. Carbon frames offer more comfort due to their special fiber structure, as they absorb vibrations better and at the same time exhibit targeted stiffness at critical points. Aluminum frames, on the other hand, are generally more robust and cheaper, but a bit stiffer, which makes them particularly interesting for beginners.
Shifting type and gear ratio: For shifting, you can choose between mechanical and electronic systems such as Shimano Di2 or SRAM eTap. Electronic shifting allows for particularly precise, fast, and reliable gear changes and requires less maintenance in terms of adjustment and wear. However, they come with a higher purchase price and additional maintenance effort due to the battery.
Braking system: Disc or rim brake: Disc brakes have the advantage of consistent and strong braking performance, even in bad weather conditions. They also protect the rims, as no abrasion occurs, which is particularly noticeable on long descents and with intensive use. Rim brakes, on the other hand, are somewhat lighter and cheaper, but quickly lose performance when wet.
Frame geometry: An aero frame is characterized by aerodynamically optimized tube shapes that reduce your air resistance and provide more speed. This geometry is particularly suitable for performance-oriented riders and competitions. Endurance frames, on the other hand, are designed for a more comfortable seating position, allowing you to ride more relaxed on long distances and get less fatigued.
Wheelset and tire width: High-profile wheels effectively reduce air resistance and improve your speed, especially on flat and fast routes. Wider, tubeless-ready tires between 25 and 32 mm, however, offer more comfort, better grip, and protection against punctures – ideal for longer training rides and changing road conditions.
At fullbike, you will find a large selection of different road bikes that meet these criteria and are tailored to your individual needs.
What matters when it comes to weight?
For maximum speed, every kilogram counts on road bikes. Typically, a road bike weighs 6.8–8 kilograms. A road bike weighing 10 kg would therefore already be on the heavier side.
Aero road bikes with carbon frames are the lightest. However, you'll feel the low weight in crosswinds, and these bikes don't absorb bumps in the road as well as, for example, an endurance road bike.
How much does a good road bike cost?
You can get good road bikes for as little as 1,000–2,000 Euros. If you're looking for a beginner road bike and just want to try your hand at road cycling, you can also buy a road bike for under 1,000 Euros.
You can expect a true professional road bike from 3,000 Euros. However, there are no limits to the top end. In high-end models, only the highest quality materials are installed according to the latest technology, which means these road bikes can also cost more than 10,000 Euros.
Road bike accessories
Even if the motto "less is more" applies to road cycling – with the right accessories you can optimally complement your riding experience.
- Bicycle helmet: Especially at the high speeds you can reach with a road bike, head protection is a must.
- Pump: so you don't run out of air
- Bike computer: shows you your performance data in real time
- Tool kits: for minor repairs on the go
- Hydration systems: Stay hydrated – this applies to sporty tours and even more so to races.
