- Compact wheels (20 inches) make sense especially if you are looking for a space-saving and easy-to-transport bicycle. However, these smaller trekking e-bikes usually offer less comfort on longer or uneven routes.
- Smaller wheels (26–27.5 inches) are more agile and nimble. They are great for tight, high-speed trails.
- Larger wheels (28–29 inches) offer a smooth ride and roll over obstacles more easily. They are particularly suitable for marathon and touring riders.
What should you look out for when buying your trekking e-bike?
When it comes to mountain bikes, there are many different aspects that affect performance and handling. Here are some important points that should help you when buying your new MTB:
- Frame: Trekking e-bikes for men ensure stability and a sporty ride with more propulsion thanks to a diamond frame. Trekking e-bikes for women are usually equipped with a trapezoidal frame, which allows for a lower and more comfortable entry. Step-through bikes are ideal if you want to mount a child seat on the bike.
- Saddle: An e-trekking bike is characterized by a relatively soft and wide saddle that optimally cushions the sit bones. Individual adjustability in fine increments is also typical. Some bikes even have suspended saddles that absorb bumps on light terrain, thus protecting the buttocks and back.
- Handlebars: When it comes to handlebars, your individual taste is what matters most. Whether wide or narrow handlebars, round grips or ergonomically shaped grips – that's entirely up to you. It is important that you adjust the height correctly. On some e-bikes, this can even be done with the on-board tools during a tour, thanks to an adjustable stem.
- Battery: A powerful battery is very important for long tours. Battery capacities of approx. 500 to 650 kWh are common. If you need even more range for long tours or a cycling holiday, you can get a second battery from our accessories range.
- Brakes: Trekking e-bikes today almost exclusively feature powerful disc brakes. The heavier the bike (including load), the larger the diameter of the brake discs should be, so that they do not overheat even when going downhill.
- Tires: E-trekking bikes have standard tire widths between 38 mm and 45 mm. If you only ride on asphalt, you can do without a coarse tread. Typical trekking tires are also characterized by high puncture resistance.
