Hand pain when cycling is widespread, especially on longer tours. With conventional, rather round or apparently ergonomic grips, numbness often occurs in the fingers as well as pain and irritation in the palm and wrists. Discomfort in the forearms and upper arms as well as in the neck and shoulders can also often be attributed to unsuitable handles. When cycling, a considerable part of the body weight rests on the hands holding the handlebars. This leads to strong pressure on a small area of the grip. The extremely sensitive ulnar nerve, which runs close to the surface of the skin in the area of the ball of the little finger, is often constricted, causing unpleasant feelings of numbness.
